Yes, I moved to california for a bit. Yes, I'm back home. Yes, I'm going back tomorrow evening. Yes, I havent written in quite a bit (though not as long as you think). So?
I've been out goofing off in california for the past month pretending to have a job making lots of money and having a great time being away from my former life. No, wait, I haven't been pretending. But it would be a great story if I was. (For you. Not for me.)
Its been entertaining for the most part. More so than I expected. A lot of work stuff. And a lot of associating with coworkers, some of whom are actually entertaining. And lots of neat toys to play with.
I have two very recommendable toys. Number one is, you guessed it, the RIM 950. Its a fun little thing. Great for writing rambling emails containing restraunt reviews while sitting in said restraunt eating. (I eat chinese on a near-daily basis, and I've yet to go to the same place twice.) I'm currently borrowing someone elses, but mine is on its way. (I also have access to developer stuff for these things and I can write all the code I want. (They use a 386, btw.))
The second is something that Tim just bought and told me to make work. I tried that and got bored. I was then intrigued by the linux penguin on the back cover. A coworker and I then opened up the case of the Aplio/PRO and took a look. Its a custom DSP strapped onto a MC68EN302, which is a 68k with onboard comm stuff, including ethernet. Interesting. Then plugged into the serial port on the back. Even more interesting. So that was fun. They could be worthy hacking boxes if we had more docs. (I emailed Aplio about the DSP driver since its compiled into the (GPL'd) (ucLinux) kernel and no source is publicly available. I find that bad.)
The final thing I enjoy about where I'm at is that I can get out of it. I've been doing lots of driving lately, and I only plan to continue. Point Reyes is my favorite spot so far. I think brock and I will head up to Redwood National Forest next weekend. I'm driving home in July for my sisters wedding and I doubt I'll take the short way home. And I plan on allowing several days to get home in August, to take time to go through Yosemite and the other stuff Over There (the stuff thats too far for a daytrip).
I also have one of these on the way. I got it from a place that has a full-refund policy, just in case I don't like it. Not many places carry expensive cameras and let you touchandfeel them the way you need to to make a decision. Oh well.
I'm about out of things to say. I was wrong. I am out of thi
